Smart city initiative is a step towards rejuvenation of selected cities in terms of Physical, Civic and Socio-economic development. The question arises why only cities, not villages?

Drastically and gradually increasing population is migrating to urban areas in search of employment, better medical and educational facilities. statistically, As per a report, in 2030, 59% of the total population bill be living in urban areas, also it is expected to get 75% of GDP from urban areas. These numerics represent cities as engine of economic growth and makes time bound infrastructure development essential.

It should be noted, Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission, ambitious bid to spur infrastructure development in rural areas,is based on Top Down approach as implemented in Gujrat. A cluster of villages will be formed under Rurban Center(Taluka or village with population more than 10 lac) and Rurban centers under Existing Urban Area. The flow of refurbishment goes from Urban area to Rural area here.

Earlier, Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna has also been launched by Union Government. Under this initiative every MP is supposed to adopt a village to ensure basic infrastructural facilities are available and implementation of schemes is as it should be. However, it is quite time consuming but will be proven as a milestone.
