Q1. Terrorist activities and mutual distrust have clouded India-Pakistan relations. To what extent the use of soft power like sports and cultural exchanges could help generate goodwill between the two countries? Discuss with suitable examples.

    Relations between India and Pakistan have always been complex and obscure due to a number of historical and political events in the past.
    Despite having uniform cultural,linguistic,geographical,economical linkage their relationship has been facing consistently growing antagonism.

    India and Pakistan, to some degree have similar cultures, cuisines and languages which underpin the historical ties between too.Pakistani singers,musicians and comedians have enjoyed widespread popularity in India.Likewise,Bollywood Indian music and films are very popular in Pakistan. Relations between Pakistan and India have also resumed through platforms such as media and communications. Aman ki Asha is a joint venture and campaign between The Times of India and the Jang Group calling for mutual peace and development of diplomatic and cultural relations.

    Apart from culture, both countries have tried to strengthen their relations in field of sports playing friendly matches. However, India-Pakistan match only shows rivalry and competitiveness,that is a different picture altogether.

    Realistically, Ceasefire violation on kashmir border by Pakistan depicts actuality.Recent Pathankot attack is cenotaph of their perfidy. Kashmir Conflict and predominance of terrorist organizations and military over Government is the root cause of estrangement between two. Though sports and cultural exchanges can play crucial role in strengthening ties between India and Pakistan but up to a certain extent.
