    GS4 question solved by me:
Q1. “Human beings should always be treated as ‘ends’ in themselves and never as merely `means’.” Explain the meaning and significance of this statement, giving its implications in the modern techno-economic society.

    My Answer:

    Meaning of the above statement:
    1. Everyone rational human being is naturally valuable.
    2. We should treat people as having a value of their own rather than using them to fulfil our goals.
    3. Others are not important because they can help us meet our goals but they are also valuable in themselves.

    Significance of the above statement:
    4. It gives highest consideration to human life.
    5. It provides a maxim which can be very useful in making ethical choices.
    6. Stability and equality can be achieved in the society by following this principle.

Its implications in the modern techno-economic society:
    7. The present society is dominated by technological innovations and neo liberalism.
    8. Today poor has become a tool for rich to gain more.
    9. Recent Saradha scam shows how poor people were used as means.
    10. Another example is terrorists using humans as bombs.
    11. Governments provision of welfare schemes for the poor is an example of treating human beings as end.
    12. Crony capitalism and exploitation in blue collar jobs can be other examples.
    13. Similarly technology today is not working for mankind, but for the profit of its inventors.
    14. Development of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, increasing cybercrime and surrogacy in India are some examples, which have led to dehumanisation of science and interest of the masses.
